Douglas Adams described it best when he said, the trick to flying is throwing yourself at the ground and learning how to miss. That’s how painting often feels to me. Much like the weird workings of the universe, it's a delightfully unpredictable, sometimes painful journey, which holds a profound truth: it's not about what 'I’ want to happen, rather about 'what wants’ to happen, surrendering to the flow and then, on occasion, experiencing a moment of sublime connection and completion.

Hi there, I’m Alain. And I paint. If I could, I’d do little else. I came to the game a little late. Hey… life.

It's not unusual to find me standing stockstill in front of a canvas for 10's of minutes or 30, or an hour even. When nothing happens and then, a few moments later, nothing continues to happen.

And though the path may be fraught with challenges and frustrations, each stumble and setback serves as a lesson in the grand comedy of existence.

So here's to the never-ending adventure of creation, to boldly embracing the absurdity that is artistic endeavour (and let’s be honest, life), and to sharing the joy of discovery with fellow cosmic travellers. For in the vast expanse of the creative universe, there is always room for one more stargazer to join the celestial dance. And yes, take that as an invitation.

I’m a father and husband, have been an executive coach and leadership trainer for more than 20 years, and am a cofounder of Intao.

I am curious (in both senses of the word), irreverent, persistent, and have a terrible sense of humour (for terrible read… yes, no, actually, terrible is right). I like sport (skiing, tennis), have a particular penchant for golf, play chess (badly), and am partial to a bit of ancient pre-history and love the night sky, and sometimes I’m wise, and sometimes, well… not so much.

I look forward to seeing you. All good things,
Alain
